Leaving Churston at 7am Chris Morton and I were taken by surprise by way of rain, albeit a light shower. No need for concern arriving at Stover the sun started to shine, organised I'm sure by our genial Captain Mike. There's a certain warmth and jovial presence whenever Mike's around both avuncular and genuine, everyone who knows the man wanted him to enjoy his special day. Mike has served his beloved Stover golf club in every way imaginable and the overdue honour of Captaincy of his peers is hopefully some icing on his cake. In Mike's long standing membership his friendship and golfing history with Roy Smith provided Roy with the opportunity … [Read more...]

Devon Captains at Exeter 2016 Golf Course
Exeter Golf Club invited Devon Golf Captains to organise a one off competition, to celebrate the much changed golf course and its new holes. The day was well supported with 28 teams entering, the weather could not have been better with hot sunshine and fast running fairways. Virtually to a man, everyone who played were tremendously impressed with the new layout, particularly the superb quality of the contractor's work. It's hard to believe that the entire operation has been completed in just over 12 months, the new greens were as if they had been there for years. For those yet to play the new course I can thoroughly recommend a visit, I don't … [Read more...]

Colin, Roy and Henry were in attendance to hand out cards etc, Roy having stayed overnight at the Saunton Sands Hotel in order to be at the club early. In fact he was … [Read more...]

Captain’s Day 2015
The Captain presenting the Bowering Salver to Keith Rendell An unforeseen start to Captain's Day for some, finding the golf course! Fielding the reception desk, allowing Roy a little more time with members, Brian (Waggs) and I were amused to hear some tales of "location difficulties" for some players. Admittedly, to those infrequent visitors to Staddon Heights, the route is not entirely straightforward, viz one illustrious member passed the same person on the same corner twice within five minutes! Having successfully arrived at the venue everyone discovered, or rediscovered, the fabulous location in which the golf course is set. If the golf … [Read more...]
