The Captain celebrates the new President in orange juice ?????
(Who is Jeff Laing celebrating)
Those who travelled up from the south of the County in driving rain and a strong wind resigned themselves to having to don wet weather gear and battle against the elements with soggy grips and limited visibility. However Colin Maw must have had a word with the Almighty for on arrival at the Club the clouds parted, the wind vanished and the sun appeared. Saunton at its most benign.
Colin, Roy and Henry were in attendance to hand out cards etc, Roy having stayed overnight at the Saunton Sands Hotel in order to be at the club early. In fact he was so early the Clubhouse was still closed and he had to wait awhile. What would DGCs do without the dedication of Roy Smith and Henry Paget? All enjoyed a very pleasant round on the links and the views over the course and in particular the 18th from the Clubhouse are the envy of many courses in Devon. This was followed by the AGM which was carried out by Roy Smith in the swift and time honoured tradition passed down by the late Bill Savage of Torquay. The meeting stood in respect of the memory of Alec Gosling (Honiton) and Mike Jarvis (Churston). Both of whom had passed away during the year. Following the adoptions of the accounts Ted Rockey echoed the feelings of all present when he stated how pleased we all were to have Rodney Beer with us that evening.
Following the election of Officers en bloc, with the addition of the retiring Captain David Beer. President Ted Rockey, Captain Mike Badcock and Vice Captain Bob Webber all addressed the meeting. Roy Smith and Henry Paget were re-elected Secretary/Treasurer and Match Secretary respectively. As usual there was no AOB and all retired to enjoy an excellent repast and convivial company, the hallmark of Devon Golf Captains. During the meal the toast to DGCs was proposed by Bob Webber.
