The Captain with the Bowering Salver winner Steve Willcocks Traditionally the half-term break is celebrated by way of Captain's Day, the finale this year at Bigbury GC where Roger Monson was Captain in 1999. Arriving at the golf club at 7.30am with Chris Morton yours truly and of course as ever our stalwart and invaluable Secretary Roy Smith. Closely followed by Henry Paget completing the Admin team. Already there of course the Captain plus the club's golf Director Nigel Blenkarne, incidentally Nigel was still present until way past 9pm the conclusion of events, a marvellous role model to all Secretary/Managers. Winner of The Andrew Bowl, Robin Lovering (Torquay GC 2013) with Ron Graham Honiton Captain     Joining Roy at Honiton Golf Club at 7.30am, without a cloud in the sky, promised a fine day for our President elect Tom Williams. Sadly we already knew that Tom was unable to join us, on this memorable occasion, because of his recent health problems, now well on the way to recovery. Later in the day more disappointment was to follow, Roger Monson our Captain elect telephoned to warn us that he was unwell and trying to obtain medical assistance. When Peter arrived early in the morning, to set up his refreshment gazebo just off the bridle pathway that crosses the 11th fairway, a very bemused walker commented "what a strange place to have a picnic"! After that things could only get better, it was however well situated for the players refreshments later in the day for the wind strengthened and a more exposed location could well have seen Angela, Hilary and Doreen, Peter's wife and lady helpers, doing a "Mary Poppins". Teignmouth Golf Club 16th May 2013 Bernard Young arrived at the golf club bright and early to start his competition, at his home club where he had seved as Captain in 1984. The weather was mercifully dry and bright with tremendous views from the course. The course had been set up, to provide maximum enjoyment for all, from the yellow tee's. This decision was certainly reflected in some of the winning scores, a magnificent 42 pts. from Teignmouth member Ian Butterfield (Captain 2001) won the event a clear winner from shortly to retire "Penners" with 39pts.
