A true ‘gentleman’
Couldn’t agree more. RIP Alf.
End of an era, few of us can remember DGC before Alf!
RIP old mate, sorry I cannot attend.
Ted
A Devon Golf Captain’s legend. I feel very privileged to have known him.
Tribute to Alf Hunt. Torquay Secretary for many of my years at the Club. He followed Peter Collinson who was one of the last of the volunteer Hon Secs.(being a retired pilot on the River Howgli, trib of Ganges near Calcutta).
Alf was very good at maths as I remember and he had a golf swing to match with a wide stance and all upper body movements, but he played from about 10 or 11 handicap – tough match player especially foursomes with Jack Robinson!
From memory he worked for Standard Telephones, Paignton and was a great rugby player and supporter. I think Exeter Rugby was his interest in his younger working life.
He was also one of those few “king hole in one” players – both scored on Torquay’s 11th & 13th within 2 days of each other in 1965. There, you can see how long I have been playing now!
It is as Ted R has said, the end of an era, pre-computer days. Alf obviously spent his leisure time with the DGC and well done to him for his commitment to the game.
RIP Alf – privilege to have known you
John Hirst
We have been very lucky with the ‘hands’ that have guided us in recent times. Alf a true gentleman who brought so much to the Devon Golf Captains. Very sorry I cannot make Thursday, RIP Alf.
