Bob Beeson reports …
We were greeted at Dainton by some rather inclement weather with showers & sunshine in the forecast. After light refreshments and team announcements, I made my way to the first tee partnered by Dainton’s Captain Gary.
I was somewhat apprehensive after my recent lay off but managed an acceptable drive to everyone’s amazement and we enjoyed a very competitive match against Captain John & his partner Peter. After several heavy downpours ,we came off the 15th all square and decided an honourable half was in order which allowed us to dry off from the latest cloudburst. Devon then lost match 2 and a half in match 3 was followed by 4 losses. This left Mr Vice with his partner, Keith Thomas, who didn’t let the side down with a 6&5 victory out in countryside – our only win. Final result DGC 2 Somerset 6.
A splendid meal was followed by a thank you speech from myself for the support shown over the season to some 65 members who played in the 16 matches this year. It then fell to Captain John from Somerset to accept the well-earned trophy for 2025 (only lent until next year). John then made mention of the cameraderie and conviviality that was enjoyed on the day and hoped that may it long continue. I agree and let’s hope next year’s matches continue in the same vein. Once again, I thank all for a great season. Assuming a large enough table can be found, all of this years trophies will be on display at Captain’s Day!
