Captain’s Day 2025 at Stover on 18th September
After some downpours earlier in the week, Bob Beeson’s prayers were answered with only light drizzle greeting the early starters for his Captain’s Day. However, this soon disappeared, and the predicted high winds failed to materialise. Bob, ably assisted by Mike Badcock, manned the registration desk and the 95 players were presented with a commemorative golf ball which some managed to lose in the deep rough on the right of the first hole. For many, this was their first experience of the new Stover layout, albeit in its current composite form. Comments were very positive although some struggled with the differing speeds of the new and … [Read more...]

DGC v Somerset at Dainton Park on 11th September 2025
Bob Beeson reports ... We were greeted at Dainton by some rather inclement weather with showers & sunshine in the forecast. After light refreshments and team announcements, I made my way to the first tee partnered by Dainton's Captain Gary. I was somewhat apprehensive after my recent lay off but managed an acceptable drive to everyone's amazement and we enjoyed a very competitive match against Captain John & his partner Peter. After several heavy downpours ,we came off the 15th all square and decided an honourable half was in order which allowed us to dry off from the latest cloudburst. Devon then lost match 2 … [Read more...]

DGC v Devon Lady Captains at The Warren 4th Sept 2025
Bob Beeson reports ... Again and not for the first time this season, we arrived at the Warren anticipating that we were in for a soaking. Luckily, this did not materialise but was replaced by the usual thrashing by our dear Ladies. Unfortunately, I had not recovered from my exploits of last week, so once again Dave Smith, my able Vice, took my place. I took over starting and photographic duties and was very impressed with the standard of tee shots off the first. The first match was very tight and although we lost the first 3 matches, they were I understand, of a very high standard. After a win in match 4, I hoped our tail might have … [Read more...]

DGC v Devon Juniors at Stover – 28th August 2025
Bob Beeson reports ... This was an eagerly anticipated revenge match for the Devon Juniors, following last year’s 5-1 victory to DGC. We were met with rather indifferent weather with heavy showers in the forecast. Bacon baps & chips were demolished and then yours truly and Stover's Vice Captain Neil Goddard (8) faced the formidable pairing of Captain Freddie Elgin (+2.6) & Joe Aldous (+0.1) on the 1st tee. We just got our noses in front until the old 4th hole which is being played as a par 3 replacing the 7th hole which is out of play. Yours truly had a hole-in-one for a net 0!!! After celebrations and some … [Read more...]
DGC v Worcestershire (13th Aug) and Gloucestershire (14th Aug) Tour
Bob Beeson reports ... After a stop off at Stinchcombe Golf Club on the way, 12 of the team enjoyed a practice round whilst I enjoyed the cool comforts of the club house. The other 3 members of the squad were meeting us at our headquarters at the Premier Inn in Bromsgrove where we enjoyed good food and planned our campaign over a drink or two on the opposition over the next two days. Day 1 saw us make the short journey to face Worcestershire at Droitwich Golf Club where we were greeted by electric gates and a very prestigious clubhouse and course. Captain John greeted us and after a short history of the club from the present Captain, we … [Read more...]
