Bob Beeson reports …
Again and not for the first time this season, we arrived at the Warren anticipating that we were in for a soaking. Luckily, this did not materialise but was replaced by the usual thrashing by our dear Ladies.
Unfortunately, I had not recovered from my exploits of last week, so once again Dave Smith, my able Vice, took my place. I took over starting and photographic duties and was very impressed with the standard of tee shots off the first.
The first match was very tight and although we lost the first 3 matches, they were I understand, of a very high standard. After a win in match 4, I hoped our tail might have wagged more vigorously but unfortunately, this proved not to be the case and we succumbed to a 5½ to 2½ win by the Ladies.
Colleen, the Ladies Captain, handed me a boxed trophy which I was not aware of and on opening the box, I realised why – we had not won it since its inception in 2018. There was a receipt for engraving and I suggested that, unless we had an upturn in our fortunes in the future, they had ditto placed on the trophy thus reducing costs!!
We enjoyed a fine meal followed by speeches and after the presentation of the Lynchem Trophy, we made our way home.
