The final tour of 2021 is a relatively new one, in existence for only a few years, and now in the preferred order, Worcester first day returning to Gloucester on the second day and therefore closer to home! Our travelling athletes usually drive to the Premier Inn base a day early, in order to bond and acclimatise to local ales and wines. On this occasion just seven of us gathered just outside of Worcester and seven miles from the following day’s venue. We last played Droitwich GC ten years prior, personally I remembered very little of the course, in some parts the course is very undulating and my buggy, shared with the Captain, a welcome aid. Perhaps the only reason we managed to avoid the dreaded ‘dog’s licence’, the Droitwich Captain, Mick, demonstrating his local knowledge!
The course, in excellent condition, was not found to be unsuitable to many of our team mates, I’m pleased to say, and a good result was obtained. A member of Droitwich GC, and their Marketing Director, proudly predicted that we would enjoy the finest meal in any Worcester golf club after our match was settled! Everyone present I believe would readily agree, excellent in every way and much appreciated. Both Graham and Alex delivered their thanks and appreciation to the home club, and its members, and the presentation of the Ian Stuart memorial trophy closed what had been a fine day in all aspects. Returning to our base for celebratory libations and tales of excellence and desperation we were of course at full strength, including a welcome new member, Jonathan Lee, and recently enjoined Adrian Gazzard, both reducing the average age considerably. And so to tomorrow, refreshed and tactics deployed ready for the Players Club and a significant challenge!
