Day two and the venue Mile End GC, literally 3 minutes from our accommodation and 2 minutes from Oswestry GC, no Sat Nave required. As indicated another day, pairings adjusted to allow for those requiring buggies, and an air of application to improve on the previous day’s performance. The course was completely different from Oswestry, fairly level walking but greens once again in splendid fettle. Our hosts had very thoughtfully arranged an earlier than usual tee time 11am, thus enabling for most of the Devon team a good time in daylight for the long journey home.
The course was indeed much flatter and water present on several holes, some not obvious from the tee laying in wait for the unwary golfer, not a long course and of course we were playing from yellow tees. The greens were similar to the previous day if anything a little quicker but putted well and true. The first three games were respectively lost, halved and a win suggesting a stronger resistance today. A strong tail did the job for our Captain Phil and his regular smiling face resumed duty as the news came through, bravo.
The Shropshire Captains, always friendly and welcoming, shared the mutual toasts offered and with Colin Wall providing a joke to allow a smile on our journey home. We look forward to welcoming our hosts to Devon next year at Exminster and Teignmouth Golf clubs I believe. Another excellent tour that can’t be taken from us, thank you Phil & Jeff.
