The fightback begins here! Roger, Mike, Tony & Bob
Day two, very hot and a course familiar to many of the Devon team Bridgnorth GC. With its challenging slopes on the first few holes a good start was essential, particularly the first with a blind second shot if the drive were not well struck. Once arriving at the fourth the more typical holes are revealed, alongside several holes the river Severn providing calm and tranquillity together with the occasional splash from an errant shot. The Devon boys were only 20 minutes from our overnight accommodation so, refreshed and recent results still fresh in the mind and pairings announced an air of competition was just under the surface. With a number of the Shropshire team playing on the second day this made for some good banter prior to the matches.
The course, as yesterday, in very good condition and greens running quite nicely some good golf was evident with accuracy and good putting required on the USGA greens. In general most matches were quite close and keenly contested, the Devon team in the main giving shots, in some cases quite a few. With a little more knowledge of the course from previous forays the boys from Devon put this to good use. Although the winning score didn’t reverse the previous day dinner was a little sweeter and the journey home less tiring. Many thanks to the drivers and to Shropshire for their hospitality, until next year at Honiton and Tiverton golf clubs!
