Peter Jeffery – Tim Aggett – Ted Rockey.
The Tournament was threatened by heavy and sustained rain the previous day however, upon arrival at 7.30 Roy Smith, Brian Waggett and myself were relieved, to set up the reception desk, in sunshine and calm conditions. The course looked to be in splendid early season condition and so it was. Good growth providing lush fairways, the greens putted well despite heavy seeding in evidence but overall a tribute to the greenstaff after such heavy rain.
On the day entries from Captains across the County were over 100 and top supporting club was Stover with 21 Captains entered, the maximum of 100 diners depleted by 4 because of personal circumstances. The course was set very fairly playing from the white tees, some of which were moved up a little, and the pins in the main quite fair. In spite of all this the scores were very modest with no one breaking par, for a few of us the late return from our French training camp proved to be a convenient excuse!
After the Presentation, by Torquay Captain Peter Jeffery, the AGM was swiftly conducted and duly elected Bob Webber (Sidmouth 2003) as Captain 2017/18 and Ben Lynch (Exeter 2006) Vice Captain 2017/18. Ted Rockey electing to serve another year as President, Roy Smith Secretary/Treasurer, Henry Paget Match Secretary were also elected unanimously. It was I’m sure for brothers Peter and Mark Jeffery somewhat special when Peter was able to present Mark with the Scratch winner’s prize, see if you can spot the difference!
