After a 12 hour deluge of rain throughout Devon the night before the match, all players immediate thoughts turned to whether the match would go on. After much phoning of club and players , the intrepid golfers made their way through flood water and the notorious lanes to Bigbury to be met by brighter skies and an open golf course. The golfing gods were on our side.
Ably started by our vice captain, and with some quick alterations to the start sheet due to some of the opposition needing to get away to catch the ferry to the IoW, battle commenced.
Captain Jeff had selected a team with a few local members in the hope of achieving our first home win of the season, but, as they say, no plan survives first contact with the enemy. The opposition provided a strong test and, having had warm up matches at Bude and Perranporth, emerged as victors.
Once again, it was a match that, like all of our cross County Captains events, exhibited a high level of friendship and camaraderie. To those Devon Captains still to venture out and play in a match, you are strongly encouraged to fill out the availability sheet here and join us.
It was a day when special thanks must go to Bigbury and all the staff for making the day such a success. Great course, great food and, once again, great fun.
