Woodbury GC. July 6th

Glenn Page -Paul Hayburn – Gareth Evans – Graham Heaman
The day started with players arriving at Woodbury GC having one eye on the lowerering skies looking filled with imminent rain! Fortunately, that rain did materialise but although in relative proximity, not whilst our visitors were engaging us in battle on the golf course. Despite very heavy rain, the previous evening, the course was in very good order albeit with the odd few areas a trifle wet. Greens in excellent condition with good pace, all things considered, and putted well. Our annual adversaries arrived with a player short, the result of ‘track and trace’ the rather contemporary issue preventing attendance. Nevertheless, poacher/gamekeeper ‘Penners’ was the choice to play as a single versus Stewart Jackson and Steve Ryder, ‘Penners’ achieved a very creditable half, as many of you know he is able to select which team to play for because of his dual qualification.
The other games, in the main, were keenly contested but overall the match was halved and as a result we retained the trophy! We all sat down together, in the conservatory, to enjoy a tasty roast and a very nice apple and plum crumble and custard. No speeches permitted once dining was over so players departed, some having lengthy drives homeward.
Many thanks to Woodbury Golf Club for looking after us all so well and we can recommend a visit to the course, you will not be disappointed.
