Having all arrived safely at Yelverton and meeting up with our guests Worcester Captains Kevin Norris, Captain at Yelverton welcomed everyone to the club. Pairs announced we enjoyed soup and sandwiches prior to first tee time at 1.30. The first hole, a long par three, introduces the course before crossing the busy road for the remaining 17 holes of moorland golf. The course was in fine condition with greens fiery and fast running true. with mobile obstacles throughout (cattle and horses). The only complaint was on the 12th hole where the horses decided to take a dust bath in the fairway bunker and failed to rake the bunker thereafter.
We all retired to the clubhouse for an excellent meal, Captain Graham thanked Yelverton for hosting our visit to the club and the excellent service from all the staff, not forgetting the greenstaff. As usual he then presented the home Captain Kevin £200 for the club’s Junior Section which was gratefully received. Alex, Worcester,s Captain replied with compliments for the course, which they had all enjoyed, and the fine views off the course of Dartmoor. After the loyal toast we departed for the homeward journey, Worcester Captains left for Okehampton where they were to play the next day. Unfortunately Worcester arrived with only 15 players so their win was much valued and appreciated.
