Arriving at the impressive Finham GC, via the long manorial drive, was for us returning players a treat to relish. Founded in 1887 the club have hosted innumerable championship tournaments and events including Open Qualification. The golf course is a very mature parkland layout with room to spare, beautifully maintained with superb greens already producing good pace this early in the season. On this occasion we were generously provided with a ‘guest player’ by our hosts, thank you Rob Stokes. Given that Neil Hayman was to play with Rob a strong pairing however, in a closely fought match the ‘scratch pair’ went down by one hole?
The weather on both tour days was quite good considering some dubious forecasters and with a couple of spiteful showers yesterday at Finham we got away with it! Unfortunately Keith Thomas, a newcomer to our ranks, missed out on this tour having been hospitalised in Greece whilst on holiday, get well soon Keith. Many thanks to those who answered the call to duty following the withdrawals. Thanks to relatively ‘new boys’ Dave Smith, Rick (Rickers) Clark and Malcolm Hughes enjoyed your company and will do so in matches to come.
All matches were quite close but home advantage paid off finally with the Warks boys recording a home win. Having previously arranged an early lunch and tee time we were grateful for the journey home in daylight, a big thank you to our drivers.
