Bill Knott – David Barker – Ben Lynch – Brian Mortimer
Returning to GHQ the previous evening after a satisfying victory at Littlehampton there often follows a lively discussion between fellow team mates and much leg pulling. On this occasion the mood continued for some with their attention drawn to some football match being played in Manchester. So with iphones, tablets and other devices providing visual attention, conversation and drinking was carried out in small groups!
So to day two and our new venue Romsey Golf Club, to most a new experience. I for one most relieved to discover that my previously booked buggy was available, Romsey is, for want of a better description, undulating and idiosyncratic. Fortunately and not unusually our opponents only too willing to point out pitfalls and shot lines to help us visitors enjoy the golf course. The greens have obviously encountered a fierce attack of Fusarium and are still in recovery, in spite of this they putted well so no complaints.
Another sterling performance by the Devon team meant that this, Captain Ben’s final hurrah, ended on a high with, to give our hosts their full title, Hampshire, Isle of Wight and the Channel Islands Golf Captains determined to visit us in the return match next year at Churston GC seeking revenge. Both Captains keeping their words of thanks to a minimum realised as early a departure as possible for the long drive to Devon.
