Peter Dunstan – Brian Rice – Cyril Boyne Ben Lynch
Captain v Vice-Captain 11th April 2019 result sheet (2)
Once again our venue Exeter G&CC, so convenient in terms of location and available facilities. This annual in-house match, mostly about fun and leg-pulling, is nevertheless played in a genuinely competitive manner. With the almost compulsory reserves, some at very late notice, making up complete teams of twelve matches everyone looked forward to the ever improving Exeter golf course. Forty eight Captains therefore looking forward to enjoying not only the golf course but also the marvellous Spring weather. The golf course as usual in good order even though still early in the season was a pleasure to play. Greens not at their best quite yet were of a nice pace and quality, the green staff never possibly receiving the praise they deserve so, thanks to all for your efforts and results.
So, with no obvious reasons for poor play the results mainly relied upon ability and the golfer’s friend and enemy, luck! In the first match there could be little doubt that a fair sprinkling of both produced an emphatic result. The ‘Vice’ laying down perhaps his modus operandi for the upcoming season 6 & 5, it’s also rumoured the 2 IC somewhat disappointed to not achieve the ‘dog licence’, aided and abetted by partner Peter Dunstan. Ben’s team mates generally provided tougher opposition but with the example of Brian ‘the lion’ storming into a leader’s result, the opposition went quietly and sought comfort and refuge in ale and wine.
Our games were witnessed and recorded on the first tee by our venerable secretary Roy, fast approaching his four score years and ten, and Mike Badcock, starter, photographer, ale & wine expert and occasional life coach. On occasions their silence, witnessing some unusual golf movements and results, spoke volumes! All in all an enjoyable day and long may they continue. Our thanks to the Directors and members of Exeter G&CC for allowing us to take up some of their golf times, most of us look forward to returning to Exeter in May for President’s Day bidding farewell to John Burrow and Ben Lynch also welcoming, Brian Waggett (Stover 1994) President elect and Brian Rice (Libbaton 2007) Captain elect, to office. There’s not much time left to enter if you wish to play, or attend the dinner.
