LITTLEHAMPTON GOLF CLUB 1st MAY
Match Result – Devon GCs 6 – Sussex GCs 2
The first tour of the season also marks the Captain’s approaching finale, traditionally the tour was the final event of of the year for the Captain. Our fixture arrangement with the British Seniors means that Mike finishes at RND next Tuesday before handing over to Peter at President’s Day, on the 16th May.
Mike has had a severely weather affected year so, it was with great enthusiasm that we all set out for Sussex with an excellent forecast and not a cloud in the sky. This was to continue throughout both days, with many florid complexions to prove it. Littlehampton is a course we have visited before and their policy of no visitors prior to 2pm was a benefit for all travelling from Devon, it meant an early start but not at the crack of dawn. All of us passengers willingly pay tribute to our drivers, two day’s golf and a round trip of over 400 miles, thanks to all of you very much appreciated.

The first brave prediction of the day was by our industrious and reliable Vice Captain, ” Today I am determined to break my duck” ! This referred to the fact that all year he has failed to produce a win. So it came to pass he did indeed win playing with Roger “Cooperman” Cooper, well done Peter! The rest of the team also produced some good golf on a course which was not at it’s most testing and played from the yellow tee’s. It was my pleasure to play with Alec Gosling and we were going well and were either one or two up until the fourteenth, our little world collapsed losing the final four hole’s to finish 2 down. Some last gasp wins provided the perfect result for “Penners” to enjoy his meal and a glass of wine.
Both Captain’s paid tribute to all at littlehampton for excellent food and golf and look forward to the return match next year at Dartmouth GC. So with our thanks recorded all set forth for the Premier Inn at Port Solent. As with all tours leg pulling and tales of the day were exchanged in the bar until our “athletes” retired, to consider their next day opponents at Weybrook Park in Hampshire.
