our day arrived with the expected clear blue skies, all of us leaving Devon on the next edition of “Sunstan” tours have by this time come to expect sun, sun and more sun. Journeying North most players were looking forward to playing two courses not previously played before on this tour. Indeed we were not to be disappointed, Belmont Park was a true delight in first class condition with superb greens, fast and true. The facilities were also an excellent addition to the venue, if you ever find yourself in this area do try and play the course you will not regret it! The Professional shop, although modest in size, contained a very good stock of clothing and golfing equipment, Richard Hemming the Club Pro. was also a very animated salesman introducing everyone to some terrific reductions across the board.

Belmont House, a grade 2 listed building, also provided a most prestigious clubhouse together with a 30 bedroom hotel nearby with golf deals on offer. So to the golf with all the drivers refuelled with local ale’s, soup and good old fashioned “doorstep” sandwiches. The usual banter accompanying most of the matches, with previous history providing the fuel was of course most enjoyable. With Devon going two down early on Ben Lynch and Adrian Beaumont put up a strong reply with a 5&4 win, the match swung back in our favour with the middle order strengthening and a firm wag of the tail via Brian “The Lion” Rice and Neil Hayman backed up by the Vice Capt. and Penners !

The Belmont experience continued with an excellent and plentiful Dinner, followed by enthusiastic thanks from both Captain’s for the excellence of our hosts at the Golf Club, a memorable day.
