Malcolm, Bob, Dave & Peter, the yellow battle !
Once again a number of the Devon team had never played the course, the clubhouse apparently in Dorset but the majority of the golf course in Somerset. One of the impressive features of the golf club the enormous and very well stocked Professional Shop operated by PGA Pro. Geoff Kite. Recent refurbishment of the clubhouse provides spacious accommodation for most events.
The course is quite undulating and a number of players made use of the buggies, it was another very hot day and plenty of hydration essential. Several matches were keenly fought but worth mentioning in particular was the display that the Dorset Captain put on for us. It was my pleasure to witness, along with Captain Bob Webber, the superb day that Dave Barker enjoyed (Hcp 14), he was level par gross after 14 holes! The old saying “every dog has his day” came to mind. When Dave returned to the real world his admiring partner Peter Brickell stepped in, very well played Dave and Peter it was your day boys.
The Devon team took a liking to the course and consequently continued the run brought from Shropshire. At dinner Bob said he felt quite honoured considering the Dorset team contained such dignitaries as other than the Captain, President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer and even the Clothing Rep, my old friend Alan Hebditch, a veritable top table ! We were well looked after by the club and our thanks go to the members allowing us to use their course on a nice day.
