These days a number of Captains travel to distant venues a day earlier, prior to match day, to bond and acclimatise to the local conditions and test the selection of ales. On our way to the Havant Premier Inn training camp we heard of a "man down" situation! Neil Hayman telephoned the Captain to inform him that influenza had stricken him low, the problem where to find a reserve at this late juncture? Subsequent to many urgent calls none were able to travel so, a good friend Mark Terry, Secretary of Sussex Captains, agreed to play for Devon, hurrah. Captain versus Vice Captain, Stover GC 21st May. Results
Let battle commence The first requirement good weather, fulfilled in every way, warm sunshine and a blue sky awaited everyone at Stover Golf Club. Despite some friendly advice, from some senior members of Stover, that the greens were slower than they had been a few days prior most people were more than happy with the course in all aspects. I think the improvements, over the past few years, at Stover have been very well received by us visitors both in tactical and visual effects. Colin Maw's report 2017 The Six Counties 2017 Tournament was already a significant event simply because this was organiser Colin Maw's final event. Over the years that Colin has invented, organised, marketed and managed the many events it was announced by Graham Davidson, Saunton GC Captain, that in excess of £800,000 had been raised for the club. Evident in the many improvements in the clubhouse and facilities, thank you sincerely from all of us. Together with the news of Colin tribute was also paid to Rodney Beer whose recent passing creates another void in the "special member" category at Saunton and elsewhere in golf. TEAM & RESULT SHEET V. DEVON JUNIORS A new match season always begins with our match versus Devon Juniors, this year at the friendly and homely Okehampton GC. Beverley Lawson, the popular and vivacious club Secretary, even came in on her day off to ensure everything was in place for our day's golf.
