Exeter Golf Club invited Devon Golf Captains to organise a one off competition, to celebrate the much changed golf course and its new holes. The day was well supported with 28 teams entering, the weather could not have been better with hot sunshine and fast running fairways. Virtually to a man, everyone who played were tremendously impressed with the new layout, particularly the superb quality of the contractor's work. It's hard to believe that the entire operation has been completed in just over 12 months, the new greens were as if they had been there for years. Devon Captains v St Pierre Captains
St. Pierre is always a difficult venue for us Devon boys to get a good result, mainly nowadays because the original fixture, versus South Wales Coastal Captains, has now morphed into St Pierre Captains. This of course means that all our opponents are playing their home course, the team this year included some "future past Captains" because the full list of Captains were not available for this match. The match however is always a joy to play in, the course in excellent order and the Chepstow boys generally very good company. Devon Golf Captains v SW Secretaries & Managers
This eagerly anticipated fixture, sometimes referred to as " Members versus Staff", is always played with the usual banter and competitive "edge". The venue this year, Clevedon GC, is celebrating it's 125th anniversary with a number of events tailored to reflect it's long history. Amongst other features of the course the scenic vantage points around the course are particularly worth a mention. John E Morgan, Sky pundit and former European and PGA Tour member, also a former member of the club. Devon Golf Captains v Dorset Captains
A doom laden weather forecast, expecting heavy rain and storm clouds already forming, meant that Yelverton GC had to make a decision as to whether to cancel or take a chance on playing the match. Our friends from Dorset having to set out on a fairly long journey early in the morning together with ourselves and Yelverton decided that the match should be abandoned.
