Devon Golf Captains v Somerset Golf Captains
Ready for the off ! Those of us who have known Wrangaton for many years were pleased to receive the recent news that the Club had been purchased by the owners of Wolleigh Golf Club, at Bovey Tracey, thus saving it from closure. It would have been a great loss to both members and the County had such a unique course, founded back in 1895, ceased to exist. The new owners are to be congratulated as both the course and clubhouse facilities were excellent. The Somerset team was welcomed by Brian Harris, past Captain of the club back in 1993, after which the Devon captain David Beer presented a cheque to the Professional Stuart Barrett, for £100 … [Read more...]

The Captain presenting the Bowering Salver to Keith Rendell An unforeseen start to Captain's Day for some, finding the golf course! Fielding the reception desk, allowing Roy a little more time with members, Brian (Waggs) and I were amused to hear some tales of "location difficulties" for some players. Admittedly, to those infrequent visitors to Staddon Heights, the route is not entirely straightforward, viz one illustrious member passed the same person on the same corner twice within five minutes! Devon Golf Captains v Gloucester Golf Captains
After the dousing. Great anticipation and a fond return to those players returning to Minchinhampton, for some a pleasure yet to be experienced! Unfortunately neither sensation was to be rewarded, rain, rain to be followed by yet more rain. Memories of the 2012 monsoon season remembered, only one thing absent the "raining Captain" Penners. Playing on the Cherington course should have been a treat, the reality was that few if any wanted to be there. Vice-Captain "Badders" and his faithful friend and meteorological adviser Val Richards offered a half to their opponents, gladly accepted, even though our gladiators were two up at the time.
