David Beer and David Burge Tavistock Golf Club celebrate their 125th anniversary year in 2015, the match versus Devon Captains just one of the many celebratory events organised for this year. The proximity of several clubs in the Plymouth area meant that several old rivalries were enjoyed on the day, all in good humour. It was my pleasure to play with an old friend Billy Hammett against David Young and Jon Gynne, Jon is currently the Devon County Seniors Team Manager and has successfully steered them through to the national finals at Robin Hood GC 6-8th October, warmly acknowledged by all present. Devon Golf Captains v St Pierre Captains
David Beer-David Bailey-John Holland-Andy Carpenter This match, previously referred to as South Wales Coastal Captains, is now to be known as St Pierre Captains. The format in future will be against solely St Pierre Captains, where necessary St Pierre members will supplement any shortfall in numbers. Last year at the Welsh stronghold we suffered a crushing defeat 71/2 - 1/2, it was time to balance the books! Dainton Park the venue offered a home advantage although no Dainton Captain had chosen to play, Derek Bryant the regnant Captain was away. Devon Captains v South West Secretaries
David Beer-Phil Pascoe-Tim Aggett- Peter Jones Driving to Staddon Heights in heavy rain and having played before at this venue in similar conditions, pleasure was not on the agenda! Typically, in Wimbledon fortnight, the weather improved dramatically. Early starters soon discarded waterproofs and some, with an each way bet, revealed shorts with legs of all descriptions and colour attached. A glorious day ensued with blue skies and of course the quite remarkable views from the golf course.
