Gloucester withdrew from this fixture because one of their Captain's had recently passed away and his funeral was on this very day, unfortunately Gloucester chose not to rearrange the fixture. To his great credit the Captain elected to try and rescue the booking with Tavistock GC, he and David Beer set about approaching all who had applied for this match. Success provided a 14 per side match within ourselves, for some reason named the "Improbables and the Impossibles" ! Devon Golf Captains’ versus Devon Ladies Golf Captains’
The Captain's with their teams posed for a photograph for submission to the Kingsbridge Gazette, fame at last! There were good reasons to celebrate with a glass or two and a splendid meal at Bigbury. En route to the golf club Judi Spiers reminded listeners that the terrible floods at Boscastle and Crackington were ten years ago this weekend. The terrible forecast for the day had encouraged players to phone in to make sure the match was still on. Devon Captains’ versus Cornwall Captains’
Captains Roger and Gary with partners Adrian and Roger After a visit across the Welsh border, where we received a real trouncing, our Devonshire marauders crossed the Tamar to do battle with "the old enemy". Instead of our one longstanding "mole" within the Dukedom of Kernow, Ted Rockey, we now have two! John Sweet, (Exeter 1977) has recently returned to full match fitness, after a five year lay off through injury, and has lived in Cornwall for many years.
